nabshow.com VIP passcode:KB1937 LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER, BOOTH C-4226, APRIL 16-19, 2007: Ikegami Electronics (U.S.A.), Inc., the world-leading manufacturer of advanced high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) television production solutions for broadcast and professional video applications, will display a wide range of new products at the 2007 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) exhibition, in Las Vegas. In addition to Ikegami's industry-leading portable, studio, and field cameras for HD and SD television production, the company's exhibit will also include the new HDL-45 and HDL-45P one-piece full-digital HD "box" cameras, the new HDL-F50 multi-format CMOS-imager-based compact HD camera designed for gyroscopic aerial mounts, the new HDE-X11 tapeless HD field recorder, the new HDS-300R holographic video archiving system, the new HLM-1710R 17-inch LCD monitor, and the new FE-100A Series Fiber Extension systems to configure the HDL-45 or HDN-X10 EditcamHD for studio camera use.

"With the nation's transition to DTV and HDTV less than two years away it's more important than ever for broadcasters and program producers to be equipped for the demands of the modern digital, widescreen, and tapeless television and video content-creation world," explains Alan Keil, VP and Director of Engineering for Ikegami. "The new age of DTV requires the use of versatile, high-quality production tools that can deliver unsurpassed image quality in any of several HD formats. From fully tapeless EditcamHD acquisition and workflow solutions, to CMOS-equipped multi-format HD cameras designed for a vast array of production applications, to exacting LCD monitors, to dependable nonlinear HD and SD video-archiving solutions, Ikegami has what the industry needs right now."

HD Everywhere
Ikegami meets the challenge of high-quality HD image capture in inaccessible locations with the new HDL-45 and HDL-45P one-piece full-digital HD "box" cameras. Featuring advanced 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion, the HDL-45 and HDL-45P deliver superb 1080i and 720p HD image-capture, respectively, and are designed for use in such locations as traffic and weather-cam mounts, goalposts, track-side or other out-of-reach vantage points. With matching picture quality and compatibility with the same control panels as their studio camera counterparts, these box cameras integrate perfectly for flash camera, newsroom, control room, and other unmanned camera positions. Both cameras also feature a built-in servo-filter that enables insertion of a neutral density or other filter by remote control-an especially important feature for use in inaccessible installations.

"Capturing the highest quality HD video from great heights is also the purpose of Ikegami's new HDL-F50 multi-format CMOS camera, which is designed to meet the size requirements for gyro-stabilized aerial camera mounts, such as the "ball" mounts used on helicopters. The HDL-F50's one-piece, space-saving design minimizes the number of camera input and output signals, simplifying signal transportation and allowing a gyro-stabilized ball mount to transmit camera signals with a minimum of slip rings. The HDL-F50's CMOS imager features low power consumption and provides multi-format 1080i or 720p HD image capture."

Editcam Tapeless Capture and Recording
Ikegami pioneered tapeless, nonlinear broadcast-quality video capture more than a decade ago with its revolutionary Editcam line of camcorders. Now in its third generation, the latest Ikegami Editcam camcorders include the HDN-X10 EditcamHD, which uses a multi-format CMOS HD imager, and is the first camcorder to use Avid's high quality DNxHD high-quality mastering codec to deliver HD resolution, full-raster (1920 by 1080) images that can be edited on laptop and desktop systems in real time. Ikegami's standard-definition DNS-33W Editcam camcorder uses a next-generation 520,000-pixel AIT (Advanced Interline Transfer) CCD and-like the EditcamHD-features such revolutionary innovations as RetroLoop recording (so videographers never miss a shot) and TimeLapse. The EditcamHD and Editcam are the only broadcast camcorders that give users the choice to record to two different forms of tapeless nonlinear media: the hard-disk-based FieldPak2 or the solid-state RAMPak cartridge. Both media mount to desktop or laptop editors instantly for fast, efficient nonlinear workflow.

At NAB 2007, Ikegami further expands its Editcam product family by introducing the HDE-X11 Editcam Station HD portable tapeless Avid DNxHD native field recorder. This newest Ikegami tapeless innovation enables producers to record to FieldPak2 or RAMPak media from any HD camera or source, 1080i or 720p, and thereby fully utilize tapeless workflow advantages in post. The HDE-X11 Editcam Station HD portable tapeless Avid DNxHD native field recorder offers 2+ hours of full HD recording to 160GB FieldPak2 or RAMPak media, compatibility with Avid HD editing systems, and RetroLoop and TimeLapse recording. Interfaces include HD-SDI and four channels of AES/EBU or embedded digital audio inputs, and down-converted composite output for monitoring.

Holographic Archiving
Responding to the growing need for stable, economical HD video archiving media, Ikegami will display the new HDS-300R external holographic drive, which enables users of Ikegami's Editcam and EditcamHD camcorders to transfer edited or camera-original video content via network interfaces to highly stable 300GB cartridges with all the advantages of tapeless nonlinear archiving and retrieval. Archiving on the HDS-300R external holographic drive, users of Editcam and EditcamHD camcorders can then erase their FieldPak2 or RAMPak for repeated use. In addition to high storage densities, fast transfer rates, and a 50-year shelf life, the holographic storage media employed by the HDS-300R is more cost-effective than tape or optical media (projected cost is approximately ten cents per gigabyte), does not require special environmental controls, offers true write once/read many (WORM) performance, is easily integrated with asset management and archiving software, and records video exactly as originally recorded, adding no additional compression.

The cartridge-encased 130mm holographic storage disc media used by the HDS-300R is comprised of two substrates with 1.5mm of recording material between them. Data is recorded by the HDS-300R between the substrates, with no surface recording. This 3D use of the full depth of the recording material is a major factor in achieving the very high capacity of the holographic media. Data is recorded at 1.4 million bits per page at a 160 Mb/sec. read/write transfer rate, using a 405 nm wavelength laser.

Fiber Extension Products
Further expanding the versatility of Ikegami's new HDL-45 one-piece full-digital HD "box" camera and the HDN-X10 EditcamHD camcorder, Ikegami introduces the FE-100A Series of fiber-extension products, which enable users to configure these cameras for studio operation. Using the new FE-C140SE camera-side unit and FE-B100A base-station unit, a tripod-mounted HDL-45 can be transformed into a studio style camera with viewfinder, including return or prompter video, intercom, and audio mic channels using SMPTE fiber cable. For those wishing to configure the HDN-X10 EditcamHD camcorder for studio operation, the FE-C100A camera-side unit clips to the HDN-X10's battery mount and connects to the FE-B100A base-station unit via SMPTE fiber cable.

Improved LCD Monitor Performance
A longtime leader in the manufacture of reference-grade video monitors, Ikegami's growing line of multi-format color LCD HDTV/SDTV models provide a space-saving, compact solution for such environments as mobile production trucks, large HD control rooms, and camera-equipped aircraft. At NAB 2007 Ikegami will unveil the HLM-1710R, a 17-inch HD/SD multi-format color monitor that integrates a revolutionary new LCD panel with a significantly improved total angle of view of 170 degrees. The new HLM-1710R also provides improved rendition of flesh tones and other visuals that demand critical viewing in broadcast television and professional video studios. Other Ikegami monitors range from the multi-format 22-inch HLM-2200 HD/SD LCD to the V-R18P, which features eight 1.8-inch LCD screens on a single tilt-up rack unit.

These and other revolutionary new and established Ikegami products will be exhibited throughout NAB 2007 at Booth No. C-4226 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 16 to 19.
