HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY GRADUATES TO IKEGAMI HK-388W CAMERAS
FOR SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS

HEMPSTEAD, NY, September 8, 2003: The brilliant digital image processing of four new Ikegami HK-388W full digital cameras has just been added to the video training facilities at Hofstra University, making an already outstanding campus even better. The broadcast-quality cameras will make a significant contribution to the comprehensive studios at Hofstra's School of Communications, which features the largest non-commercial stage on Long Island and intensive programs in commercial and non-commercial production, advertising and corporate video.

"These are the best cameras in the world: The video is truly stunning," says Joseph Valerio, Chief Video Engineer, Hofstra University School of Communications. "We have a long-standing relationship with Ikegami. We have to live with our gear for 10 to 15 years, and Ikegami has proven to us that they have the kind of quality that will go that long."

Loaded with cutting edge imaging technology, including large scale ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) chips with 45MHz sample frequency, the Ikegami HK-388W is the perfect fit for Hosftra's advanced video facilities. The ease of use is an attribute that students and seasoned professionals alike have come to appreciate. "The Ikegami cameras work right out of the box," Valerio notes. "Without any real manual consultation you can put video up in under a minute. Their control panels and entire operating system are extremely elegant."

Students at Hofstra can also get an education on great customer service by watching how Ikegami supports their equipment. “Ikegami has a very good sales force and they really respond well to customers," says Valerio. "Their ability to give us expert phone support, when needed, has been big. Plus, when it comes to parts availability, they support things years and years out.

The Ikegami HK-388W delivers high resolution, low noise image quality with a wide dynamic range and accurate color fidelity. Employing high-density 640,000 pixel 2/3-inch FIT CCD image sensors, the HK-388W delivers superb imagery in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. Operating in the digital domain, the DTL system provides 3-channel enhancement for uniform sharpness of all colors, also Diagonal, Slim and Skin DTL, as well as DTL Boost Frequency and DTL B-W balance.

For a premier video department like the one at Hofstra's School of Communications, the rich imagery, durability and support of Ikegami gives students a great lesson on how to succeed in broadcasting. “Ikegami is the first choice here because the images look great, they make reliable gear, and it also has name recognition that it's enjoyed for a long time," Joseph Valerio concludes. "Students like saying they worked on that brand name because it carries that weight, and people on the hiring side realize that Ikegami is the world's finest manufacturer of cameras."
