ROBOVISION RACES TO HD WITH IKEGAMI HDL-40C CMOS CAMERAS

10 New Ikegami One-Piece Full Digital Native Multi-Format HD Camera Make Dangerous Racetrack-Level Shots Possible

HDL-40C NEW YORK, May 20, 2004: : The most extreme HD coverage yet of NASCAR and other racing events will soon be captured with Ikegami HDL-40C cameras. Robovision, an Emmy award-winning specialist in racing coverage, has purchased 10 of Ikegami 's one-piece full digital native multi-format HD POV cameras, for unprecedented, high-adrenaline views of the racetrack that are far too dangerous for a manned camera to capture.

"Tith Ikegami cameras, Robovision will be producing breathtaking racing coverage for HDTV every weekend," says Jim Warden, President and CEO of Robovision. "These are high-risk, dangerous shots that we can bring to the home viewer so that they can appreciate the danger and excitement of racing. The Ikegami HDL-40C is a perfect match for us. It provides a switchable HD format between 720p and 1080i, yet is lightweight and compact, which makes it easier to operate with our high-speed robotic heads."

With its one-piece design and compact profile, the Ikegami HDL-40C camera is ideal for safe trackside deployment and shooting precise HD imagery of NASCAR, Indy car, Formula 1, truck racing, Push racing and more. For the Robovision team, which also includes Rich Glandorf, Director of Operations, and Chris Fuidal, Director of Racing Operations, the cameras rugged build was a key factor in their selection of Ikegami. "Te will bring these cameras through a lot of abuse," Warden says. "They'll go through wind tunnels, heavy vibration, sandstorms, high G forces, and withstand a car traveling at 200 mph when it 's six inches away. If one of the cameras does get hit by a race car, it 's very cost-effective, so it won't be an overbearing expense to replace it."

The award-winning Ikegami HDL-40C is a high-performance POV camera featuring three 2.1 million pixel CMOS sensors, Ikegami 's new multi-format sensor which works in native 720p or 1080i formats. The HDL-40C achieves superb picture quality without vertical smear, making it ideal for numerous POV applications. The HDL-40C weighs less than 4 pounds, and the fully digital stream through the camera to the HD-SDI output assures signal integrity, repetitive high picture quality and stable reliability. The camera operates with the complete range of Ikegami control panels, providing the video operator with full remote control.

Ikegami 's strong track record in service was also extremely important to Robovision. "We've had great experiences with Ikegami," says Warden. "They'r e very responsive, and they'r e always able to guide us towards a solution for any problems we might have, which are usually brought on by the brutal conditions our cameras work under."

For Robovision (www.robovision.com), the brilliant imagery of Ikegami ensures that racing will live up to its full potential in HD. "The bottom line is that our HD cameras have to look good, be able to take a punch, and then get up and keep going," Jim Warden concludes. “HD was invented for the sports fan, and we'r e hoping to bring race coverage to a higher level that will blow people away. We intend to position ourselves as the leader in HD sports robotics. That 's why we went with Ikegami."
