NASHVILLE, June 17, 2004: With 70 million cable households in the daily audience, seven sets, and live production running 24/7, Shop At Home Network needed seriously dependable cameras. With their recent acquisition of eight Ikegami HL-60 full digital broadcast cameras, Shop At Home got life-like imagery and flexible performance in a package they can rely on.

"We tested several prospective vendors, but Ikegami was able to provide us with everything we needed while still allowing easy operation," says Jaymee Sharp, director of engineering for Shop At Home. "We have to ensure that the product a customer sees when they place an order looks the same as when it arrives at their home. The Ikegami HL-60 is color-correct so our camera operators never have a problem adjusting to any necessary color."

Wide temperature ranges and shooting situations throughout the massive, 76,000 sq. ft. Shop At Home facility, meant that flexible operation was a priority for the network. "With the set lighting and the call center in the same area, there is a continuous fluctuation of temperature,"Sharp says. "We needed a camera like the HL-60 that would remain stable in all of those changing environments.

“Live TV brings many set challenges. We often move from a live cooking show to a live fitness show within seconds causing serious lighting changes. The Ikegami HL-60 is able to handle these situations, continuously delivering a totally consistent look."

Shop At Home's experience with Ikegami's industry-leading monitors was a preview of the high-level support the company provides. "We were already utilizing Ikegami monitors in our studio, and they never provided us with anything other than excellent support," Sharp confirms. "In the rare situation that we have a question, our Ikegami technical support representative is always available to troubleshoot the problem."

Combining newly developed digital signal processing features with a compact size and low power consumption, the switchable 16:9/4:3 HL-60W brings crisp imagery and value to a wide range of production applications. It extends Ikegami's long history of digital television advances with its 3-chip AIT 520,000 pixel CCD's, and debut of Ikegami's latest DSP ASIC with 0.18 micron design. Featuring 38-bit internal processing, 67 dB signal-to-noise ratio and 75% modulation depth, high sensitivity of f11, and low vertical smear of -35dB, the HL-60W realizes high performance and outstanding specifications. Since all imaging is now performed by a single ASIC, the HL-60W digital processing system is extremely compact and efficient, resulting in a camera head weight of just 5.1 lbs. and a low 10W power consumption.

Ideal for a wide variety of studio and ENG/EFP applications, the Ikegami HL-60W is available with either component triax or two-channel triax configurations. With a wide sensitivity range and ten (10) gain settings, the operating range is greatly extended. The Hyper Gain of +48dB allows a minimum illumination of just 0.12 lx. Furthermore, an option allows the sensitivity to be increased up to 120 times by CCD charge accumulation over longer than the standard 1/60 second, for special operation in the dark. The color reproduction in high light areas is improved since the RGB signals are digitally processed with a super KNEE System after they are reconverted to linear signals. This system retains the color in the highlight area where it is washed out in conventional cameras.
