| KDVR taps Ikegami for news Reported in Broadcasting & Cable magagine on Augut 9, 1999 KDVR(TV) Denver purchased $1 million in Ikegami production gear that will be used for its start-up news operation. the Fox station plans to begin newscasts with the opening of its new broadcast facility late this year or early next. The order includes three studio cameras. Priced at $137,000 each, the cameras are capable of handling both HDTV and NTSC formats. According to Ikegami spokesman Bob Estony, the cameras' built-in upconversters and downconverters will "futureproof" the station for HDTV production in any format, including Fox's preferred format, 720P. "We're positioning this as a universal camera," he says. The three cameras are portable, but will be configured for studio production and remotely controlled via a master control panel. The station also ordered three NTSC studio cameras, which also will be remotely controlled through the master control panel; 11 DVCPRO50 camera/recorders that will be used for newsgathering; and several color monitors for master control. KDVR's 80,000-square-foot broadcast facility was designed by Chicago-based architecture firm DTA Carlson, which also designed facilities for Fox's Los Angeles and Houston TV stations, KTTV and KRIV. KDVR's facility will include an 8,000-square-foot news studio, a 10,500-square-foot comuterized newsroom and 12 digital editing suites. Station spokesman John O'Laughlin says the station will launch its news sometime after it moves into the new facility but has no specific date. "We want to get it right," he says. |
